How the Calculator Works
Methodology, data sources, and limitations
We use each city's Cost of Living Index (COL) relative to the national average (100). Your salary is divided by the ratio of the two cities' COL indices to determine what your current salary would need to be in the target city to maintain the same standard of living. We then factor in state income tax differences to show the after-tax impact.
